It is funny how on the hardest days you can learn the most about God. Since my dad’s death, almost 3 years ago now, it has been an uphill battle. Every day something new would happen and the battle would begin. Day-in-and-day-out fighting. It seems for me, and I am sure for many of you as well, the battle is just a way of life. But God did not leave us to fight these battles alone or unarmed. It says in Ephesians 6:10-18(NIV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
THE ARMOR OF GOD – do you know what that is?
It’s not just some armor that is in a storage building in heaven and God says, “Here you go,” when you give your life to Him. But it says in Isaiah 59:17(NIV) “He put on righteousness as His breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.”
God Himself puts on the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation! We don’t just get any armor; we put on the armor of the King – the best of the best – because He wants us to win. For His glory. Things may look bad, but we serve a God that wants the best for us. He gave us the BEST to fight with.
So we know that God has given us great tools to fight with. But, like I said in the beginning, we are not fighting alone either. We are told in Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
